Rudy Gatlin
Born and raised in Mississippi, Rudy Gatlin started taking piano lessons when he was eight years old. At the age of thirteen he attended his first Sandi Patti concert deciding then that singing was for him.
November 24, 1982, at age 10, Rudy gave his life to Christ and rededicated his life when he was thirteen years old. He has always known that his musical talents were a gift from God and his desire has been and is to use those talents to the glorification of God’s Kingdom. His goal is to use this medium to win others to Christ and help set a positive example to fellow Christians.
When the path became clear that Rudy should further his music knowledge he decided to pursue music as his chosen field of study in college. Years of learning and gaining experience in his home church as pianist, organist, soloist, and music minister helped him both to witness to others through music and to become more comfortable in his role as a musical disciple for Christ. God blessed him throughout his college journey, opening doors for him to gain performing experience in a variety of venues (Guest soloist at the1991 Church of God International Camp Meeting, 1994 Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise with William Carey University, 1995 Dido and Aeneas with the University of Southern Mississippi, 2001 Trial by Jury at William Carey University, 2002 Hymn of Praise with William Carey University, 2002 World Premier of Mass in C by J D Frizzel with Pilgrimage Presbyterian Church Community Chorus, 2003 Mozart Requiem with the University of Southern Mississippi Orchestra and Symphony Chorus, 2003 World premier of Perceptions by J D Frizzel with Kazanetti String Quartet, 2003 Dixit Dominus with the University of Southern Mississippi Orchestra and Southern Chorale, and 2007 Chichester Psalms with the University of Southern Mississippi Chorale).
Today, Rudy is at a juncture in his life waiting to be guided in the direction the Lord wants him to go. Whatever the future holds, Rudy will always be thankful to the one who gave him the love and gift of music.
