Formed in 1933 by Leonard Slye (later Roy Rogers), Bob Nolan, and Tim Spencer, the Sons of the Pioneers helped define close three-part harmonies and western-themed songwriting with classics like "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water." They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and have continued performing with changing personnel for decades.
