About
As a modern hi-fi bar and listening room, shyboy follows in the storied tradition of pure auditory experiences but in a way that’s free and playful. Equipment and world-class programming are about the only things that we take seriously. And having a good time, of course.
We’re democratic when it comes to music, celebrating a wide range of genres from Japanese Jazz to Detroit House. Our lineup features the most talented and knowledgeable DJs and selectors in the nation—nay, the world.
Our space, informed by curving brutalist design and adaptive reuse, features works by progressive contemporary artists. In the main space, “Untitled” (2025) by Duccio Maria Gambi is flanked by two 9-feet-tall Devon Turnbull OJAS x NNNN speakers. Our blue listening room, a painstakingly restored 1920s bank vault, houses a secondary OJAS system designed by Devon Turnbull and features Lachlan Turczan’s “Optical Resonance” (2023). A cymatic sculpture, it reacts organically to the sounds of the room, bathing viewers in its reverberating waves of light.
We’re a place for serious audiophiles, music lovers, and people who just want to shake it out. Come, dance, chill, giggle, drink, and become a regular.
